Greenland Villages Hiking Tour

Greenland Villages Hiking Tour

Greenland is the largest island on the planet (four times the size of France and five times the size of California). The East coast of Greenland is colder than the west coast and largely covered in ice. This itinerary takes us on foot and by boat between four villages that are ice free and offer beautiful hikes and a slow-paced way to experience Greenland. We will enjoy beautiful hikes fabulous views of ice filled fjords and bays, granite peaks, wildflowers and Inuit culture. We’ll also enjoy boat rides between villages, passing glacial ice calved from extremely active glaciers in Sermilik Fjord.

We will be hiking in uneven and rocky terrain and hikes may take between 5-7 hours. It is therefore important that participants are fit and have previous hiking experience. Participants may also be required to lend a hand moving luggage for boat transfers. We ask that personal gear be limited to 15kg (33lb). We will provide you with a gear list on booking.

A note about accommodation

Accommodation on this trip is basic, involving mattresses on the floor and dry toilets with showering options available but typically in a ‘service house’. We are visiting remote villages that do not enjoy all of the amenities taken for granted in many cities, towns and villages around the world. This is all part of the adventure.

A note about food

All meals are included. Fresh fish may be available in some villages. Dietary requirements must be advised well in advance so we can make arrangements as there are no restaurants and supermarkets on this trip. Your guide will prepare an evening meal. Breakfast and lunch will be fairly typical hiking fare with porridge, muesli, nuts, chocolates, bread, cheese and spreads.
