Swim with Gentle Giants in Tropical Tonga

Every year humpback whales migrate to Tonga to give birth in the tropical waters of Vava’u and Ha’apai.  The warm waters provide a safe environment for the new-born calves. Experienced guides and crew will help us locate and observe and capture fabulous images of a range of diverse and unique behaviour both from our vessel and in the water.  We will also have the opportunity to explore coral reefs and may encounter other marine megafauna including pilot whales, dolphins, manta rays and potentially even whale sharks.  We will have 8 days on the water to maximise time for quantity and quality encounters and ten nights in peaceful waterfront accommodation.

About Us

We specialise in small group tours from the icy expanses of the polar regions to remote tropical islands of the south pacific.   Our partners are like-minded regional experts. Experienced and passionate guides maximise opportunities to explore, experience and capture the beauty of the regions we visit.

Our trips are designed to maximise time and space for you to explore and experience a destination in depth, to disconnect from daily life and to reconnect with nature. We know this is best achieved with small groups of flexible and open-minded travellers who understand unexpected adventures are often the most memorable and the people we share experiences with can become treasured lifelong friends.

Islands & Ice Travel’s founder, David Sinclair has travelled extensively since 1993 including over sixty trips to the polar regions. You can see some of his images on the dedicated ‘About Us’ page (click on the button below) and in some of the trip specific image galleries.

If you love wilderness, wildlife, adventure and photography our trips will be right up your alley. Contact us if you have questions about any of our trips or if you have a group and a trip in mind you’d like us to put together for you and your travelling companions.
