A springtime voyage aboard the new and environmentally friendly Captain Arctic along Svalbard’s west coast unfolds around the Spring equinox at the point of swift transition between polar night and endless sunshine. From late March into early April, the sun returns stretching twilight into luminous hours of blue and pink light that glaze glaciers, fjords, and jagged peaks. Sea ice drifts along the coast, sculpted by wind and tide. Wildlife stirs back to life: seals haul out on the ice, polar bears patrol the floes, and seabirds start to return to their clifftop perches as breeding season approaches. With crisp air, pristine snow, and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, this early-spring passage offers a rare, intimate portrait of Svalbard awakening and offers extraordinary photographic opportunities.
